Always before, when I ordered something from Apple with an "in the future" delivery date, I could bet money Apple would beat the projected delivery date.
You realize you haven't ordered the AirPods right?
I'm keen too but I'd rather they make them available for order when they are ready and not before.
With all the research being done indicating a likely correlation between EMF radiation that's being emitted right next to one's head and various brain cancers I think these Bluetooth AirPods are a bad idea. With most people ignoring the dangers of placing their cell phones with their associated RF radition right up to their ear's constantly, Bluetooth will be adding an addition threat to one's health. And please, don't tell me there's no substantial proof of the dangers.
Yeah, it seems likely that radiating the brain causes cancer, but whaddaya figure the relative radiation level is between an AirPod and that eighty-seven megazillion BTU heater in the sky we call the sun? I don't doubt the outcome, but I'm not convinced consumer electronics devices are the cause. Of course, I could be wrong. It's been known to happen from time to all the time.
It's a major disappointment. The AirPods should have been available along with iPhone 7.
Agreed 100%. A successful product can still have a botched launch. This does nothing to help transition people from using the headphone jack to wireless. The Lightning headphones can't be used on any other product, as there's not even the hint of a Lightning headphone to 3.5mm adapter, much less a USB-C, or Thunderbolt for using with one's own Mac. That means customers are put in the position of using the 3.5mm adapter with an old set of headphones, or worse yet, buying a new set of 3.5mm equipped headphones, because they don't have an old pair.
How long has Apple known they were ditching the headphone jack? How long have they known a successful transition away from it depended on improving the wireless products available in the current marketplace? This really is inexcusable. One wonders how well the iPhone 7 would be selling following this delay had the Note 7 not been taken off the market tainting the entire Samsung brand along with it.
Apple did plan: Beats Solo3, PowerBeats3, BeatsX. You act as if the AirPods are the only headphones designed with the iPhone 7 in mind.

Oh right.
Because the $300 Beats Solo3 over the ear headphones are the same as $159 AirPods? And the $200 PowerBeats3 are the same, despite having a wire connecting the buds together, not to mention not being available until November 11th -- assuming they don't get delayed as well? And the $149 Beats X are still listed as "available this Fall" with no ETA at all, and again, the same despite also having a connecting wire?
So out of four wireless headphones designed to improve the BT experience and make up for the loss of the headphone jack, only one is currently available, for a phone that's been for sale since mid-September. And the only one that's been available is the largest, heaviest, least portable, and most expensive, over-the-ear type -- which by the way requires a separate micro-USB cable to charge them (as does the PowerBeats3); doesn't really sound like they were designed all that much with the iPhone 7 in mind.

People were saying the same thing about cellular phones as well. Maybe any new tech is black magic instinctively.
Also, there's no substantial proof of the dangers.

I agree with you. Bluetooth is adding additional threat to your health. You better not use one. I hope more people could educate themselves on this topic.
By the way, if you are interested in this subject: Your wireless rooter is more dangerous than any Bluetooth device. Your microwave is more dangerous than your rooter. Your refrigerator is more dangerous than your microwave.

That's good planning?
your argument fails because your entire premise is built upon a foundation of horse manure -- the new W1 headphones are not a requirement to use the iphone 7. you can also use: 1) any BT headphones. 2) lightning headphones. 3) any 3.5mm headphones with a minute adapter stuck on the end. you can use these options now, today.
the benefits of ditching the port were spelled out by apple very clearly in their interview: 1) better OIS camera and image processor, 2) bigger battery, 3) water seals.
so enough with your strawman.
jus say it after me: "I am not a victim. I...am not...a victim."

I'm curious as to how you know the audio quality of the AirPods.
