Who apple could buy (possibilities and speculation)
I was thinking about who Apple could buy out and i have come up with a few possibilities.
-Macromedia - About 400 million dollars, take all their software mac-only...now thats some good incentive to Switch
-nVidia and ATI- I couldn't find out how much ATI would cost but owning both of them and still selling them would get apple some great hardware engineers and would squirt up their profit margins because the PC sales pay off all of the R and D for the graphics chips, and ensure Apple gets all of the latest graphics chips first. How much would this cost though?
Adobe - However, might be a little to expensive. Market cap is around 4 billion
Alias|Wavefront - Get maya and 3D softwares mac-only or custom made for mac...helping the Mac step into the high-power graphics range How much would it cost?
SGI- Get SGI high-end graphics software and hardware engineers. ARound 200 million$
Palm~Enter handheld market and get BeOS . Cost about half a billion
I also think Apple could design their own processor custom made for MAC OS X using the same altivec and G4 instruction sets so no software has to be re-written and can be kept up performing just how they want it. How much would this cost? ARound 500 million?? Then they could pay some japanese fab to fab it for them.
What are some other possibilities and what do you think?

nVidia is probly a little out of their price range though. They way that CEO of theirs talks they will be bigger than Intel in a few years. But you know how CEOs talk.
I'd buy Mot and get their sorry butts in line.

Don't discontinue Windows development, instead promise that it will get even MORE attention. Then do the following to each app:
1. With each point update, release the Windows version longer and longer after the Mac version.
2. Leave small but key features out of the Windows version. Insist that they are really there.
3. Charge 30% more for the Windows version.
4. Make sure that the Windows GUI lags no less than one full point release behind the Mac version.
5. Continue to optimize code for PPC and Altivec. Remove any optimizations for x86 and sse2. Blame poor Windows performance on hardware and OS issues.
Overall I think this would be an excellent move for Apple!
Three of their top developer support guys just jumped ship to climb into bed with ATi, and the response to the new Cg programming language has been sort of lukewarm... Could be bad times coming for the nVidia crew.
I don't think it's a good idea for Apple to climb into bed with a chip manufacturer, on the CPU or GPU sides, since that narrows the options. And Steve likes options.

Apple could also buy AMD but that's just a little too much for Apple too handle I think
Macromedia- Why buy'em. For Flash..yawn. Director? Yawn. The Web Dev market isn't gonna make Apple rich or gain marketshare.
Adobe- Apple has no need to. Perhaps they should buy TIFFany 3 and work that code over "just in case" but Adobe ain't going nowhere.
SGI- Microsoft gutted them for IP. There's nothing there worth buying
Palm- Handspring and Palm did Apple a favor by refusing to be bought. Despite their efforts, they're Dino's and don't know it yet. Web Enabled phones are the future. Apple doesn't need Palm
Nvidia- Buy their chips but not the company. This market is too volatile. The high margin products are Gamers and 3D Enthusiasts...not something you can place into every home.
What I think is that Apple can relaxe about acquisitions of a large nature. They've solidified themselves in enough areas.
Shake/Rayz- High End compositing
Prismo- Cool Titling coming
Zyante- The tech to push Firewire.
Emagic- Apple controls THE DAW to have.
I used to think they needed a 3D Apple but we have decent choices here so no need for that.
Apple needs a Browser(please fix this stagnant area) but not much else as far as glaring needs.
-Are small
-Have geniuses or revolutionary products
-Have owners that doesn´t have a clue about their worth
-Pref. Mac heads (easier to screw)
