Not for any good reason though.

Trust the French... no offence, Powerdoc

People in France, who do not like this decision, should appeal to the International Court of Human Rights (or whatever it is called) in The Hague. Sheeesh... Aren't there more important issues around?

The law limited the maximum sound output to 100 DB is a good law. It prevents injury of the internal ear and permanent diminution of the audition.

Fix the problem for the Ipod selled in France won't be a major problem i think. A minor software update must be sufficiant.

We will see i pod in France soon again.

That law is utter BS, there are so many variables to consider when measuring sound output pressures...

For example, the ear canal, sensitivity of ear drum, headphone impedance/sensitivty... I have some headphones that you can barely hear when the ipod is maxed out, and some that are loud as hell when it is. Well, the french government must be full of morons, obviously (but which government isn't?)...

Well, your protests will fall onto...er...deaf ears...

I actually think it is an Ok law. Here in the states I see the future of America...all deaf when they reach 30. From listening to music at unbearable levels through Walkmen, Discmen, pimped-up-amped car stereos and iPods...

This is a very good law, in my opinion. I mean, in every country, there is an entire realm of rules and regulations to protect people from themselves. (speed limits, smoking restrictions, legal vs. illegal drugs).

BTW: the international court for human rights is in Strassburg, France, as far as I know. (The Hague has the international criminal court).

The law is BS...The government has no right to decide what volume is too loud for you!

What's low to me, may be too loud for others but it's still my choice to listen to my music as loud as my ears can take it!!!

I have the hearing of a ****ing 70 year old, and it's sure as hell from my frickin' Walkman when I was in my teens.

If only it was half as loud (or I'd worn earplugs to all those concerts....)

Yes, I really don't understand why the engineers run things so loud at concerts. Maybe they're all deaf from going to other concerts . Anyway, while we're on the topic, I've been told that you can lose your hearing a lot faster from headphones than you can from loud sounds originating away from your head. I don't know why, but I don't have much of a desire to test the theory out either.

I once ran one day with the dB-meter on the city. So things like metro was a surprise - it went past 90 if you were close to it. In one of my ex homes there was always a high noise ; 2 busiest streets of the city (.. million inhabit.) had the crossing practically below...

I often hate noise. The noise sensitivity could be a secondary effect of something else. Maybe it is as I have seen it mentioned plenty of times as a symptom. (And decide I don't make a stupid comment on this).

I think the easiest way to fix that 100 dB problem could be change the standard headphones of ipod or fix the sound switch.

Sure... And dancing on a cube in a disco sure stays under those 100 dB ...
