Is iPhoto making Apple any money?

Haven't heard much about iPhoto recently and I'm not sure if any info was given during the recent financial statements.

I recall Steve Jobs touting how great these hard cover photo books would be and how hot they'd be.

Anyone order one of these books? No one I know has.

Is it doing well or has this tanked?

Does apple make any money from iCal or iChat either? Probaly not. And the books and prints I think most of the money goes to kodak, who does all that stuff and just sticks an Apple logo on it.

All the iApps are used to generate revenue. Some are not as obvious. iChat and iCal features lure users to upgrade to Jaguar or to purchase a new Mac which brings in revenue.

But iPhoto was more of a pay for print/books deal. And while Kodak or whoever stood to make money, I'm sure Apple took a cut.

iphoto helps apple to earn money indirectly.

By allowing photos to be published on the net, apple is trying to get us to subsribe to .mac

and also of course, using iphoto to attract PC users to switch to mac

I think it helps make money in a few ways.

    1. They get a cut from pictures and the books.

    2. They get people to sign up to .Mac so they can post their pictures.

    3. They get a cut from camera sales, which are easier to use with iPhoto.

    4. They get people to buy a Mac because it makes digital photography easier.
