Are Office XPs file types (.doc, .xls and .ppt) compatible with Mac Office 2001, Mac Office 98 and Mac Office X?

I have 50 OS 9 Mac users, 5 Mac OS X users and 2 Win XP users. The OS 9 users have either Office 98 or Office 2001. The OS X users have Office v X. The PC (XP) users don't have an Office suite yet. I don't want to buy Office XP if it will not share files with the Macs well.

On the Mac, Office 98 and Office 2001 work well toagther. Same for OS X (basically). What about Office XP?

I used to have Office 97 which worked well.

Will Office 2000 (PC) run in Win XP?

If anyone remembers the days when we went from Word 5/6 to Word 98, you will know the problems we all had with file data types! Every file had to be converted or resaved! Yikes!

Any thoughts?

I'm fairly sure the filetype is the same or at least very similar for Office 98, 2000, 2001, v.X, and XP. I've swapped files between them (admittedly, though, not highly complex ones) without any trouble.
