Evil idea for apple :-D
Why don't they buy out whatever company Dell and Gateway buy their hard drives and disc drives from, and with the profit from selling them all of their stuff, use it to introduce faster and newer drives available only for Macs at first. The price of hard drives and disc drives isnt making them, it's the R and D. So if Apple pays for them with their money from selling them to gateway and dell, Apple gets the profit from selling to other PC makers, the most advanced hardware first, higher sales on Macs, and higher profit margins on macs. What company(s) would Apple have to buy to do this, and is this possible?

They would be producing for Apple, and many other computer manufacturers so with mass-production prices stay low, and they would have the most advanced hardware. Of course the pc companies wouldn't know Apple owns this company, it would be bought through seperate accounts have a different management and run it through a "puppet scheme".
:-D
But surriously, I don't think Apple (or even Dell for that matter) could buy Maxtor, Seagate, and Western Digital. And a stated before, if they jakced up the price, companies like IBM and Fujitu would hit(not just keep a presece) the ATA market agin.
We're not buying everyone of them and making a monopoly. We're just buying one so that we don't have to spend even more on R&D to make Macs have the best hardware. We need a starting point. We also get the added profit from selling these for PCs. So we're selling to PCs and Macs, so were selling more so we can charge less, Macs get the new technology first, and Macs have higher profit margins.
You're not getting it.

Easier said then done. hardware makers are many. Buying one will not affect Dell They will just go find somebody else. And if the hardware maker is so important to Dell, I bet Dell will not let Apple acquire it so easily
If it was so easy in real life, Apple would have use this strategy long ago. Apparently, Apple is foucsing on acquiring the software markets, espeically in audio and movie making
But couldn't they acquire the one Dell uses without Dell knowing. Buy it through other accounts and other companies appoint some CEO that has no connection with Apple and run some sort of puppet scheme.
