Software Base Station VS. UFO?
Airport Question:
I have been browsing around and found that it is possible to set up an Airport equipped Mac to do connection sharing with other Airport equipped Macs. I have a Dual 1Ghz and soon a Powerbook. Does anyone have any insight about how well this works or should I just go ahead and blow the cash on the base station?
It would save me about $200 to do it this way, but I do not want to do it if it is going to be flaky.

This kind of 'small-time serving' actually does drain a bit to a considerable amount of your resources (cpu notably - also, think of the warning about file sharing in previous OS'es: making file sharing active can drastically reduce performance of your comp - this is, in my experience, not so different from OS X).
Okay, comps these days might have better performance to handle those tasks without whining but still.
Also, if you want to save some money, you might want to look into cheaper wireless routers. I've ordered my LinkSys W watchamacallit last week, and have read that it works pretty nicely with airport. Price in the us: 99 to 120 dollars, depending on the shop. (and carries a 4-port ethernet switch, in case you run into wireless troubles).
