Face recognition - really practical for authentication?
Ofcourse this is just speculation, but I see serious issues with Facial Recognition VS Touch ID. I can’t imagine Apple ditching Touch ID completely:
- Facial Recognition is an issue in low light situations, e.g payments at an event.
- Touch ID works because you can hold the phone close to a terminal and verify with a touch, instead of moving the phone back to your face.
- I can’t imagine that Facial Recognition works with identical twins, someone who’s growin his/her beard or had an operation. If it accepts all these variations in someone’s face, is it still strict enough to secure your phone or do payments (false positives)?
I hope Apple has managed to integrate Touch ID as a side button!
