Apple liquidation

How and when does Apple get rid of product if they have way too much of it? Do they hold auctions ever or sell stuff discounted through their own channels? I'm not talking about last generation Powerbooks necessarily as I know people still sell them for Apple but older stuff maybe that they can't sell anymore.

I don't think Apple really ever has to deal with this problem in quite a while. Whenever a new product is about to ship, the retails channels start to dry up in the weeks beforehand. Apple simply stops shipping old Macs in enough advance for them to be sold out before new Macs ship.

What kind of stuff do the Dovebid auctions have? Is it newer stuff or is it old stuff?

They've sold surplus Macs to Costco in the past, haven't they?

Costco gets some. I imagine some might go to schools as part of bids.
