Printer Resolutions...

Hi, im looking into getting a new printer that will do nice photo-quality prints. In particularily i've been looking at the epson range (6 colour solutions like the 830). Print resolutions seem to be given in terms such as 1200 x 2400dpi. Well the other day when i was in a retail shop, the guy said i should only worry about the higher number. Now epson make a printer with 5760 x 720, and 5760 seems nice, but will the low 720 make much of a difference? Does anyone know what the next phase of resolutions will be? I've just started seeing 5760 x 1440. Also, what print resolution would be close to 35mm photo's with out dye-sub printing? Thanks

At 5760 dpi the dots would not be visible to the naked eyes of most mortals, which,of course does not include me.5760 is the same resolution of the IRIS printers.
