Ok I have 2 macs here with me that shipped with ethernet standard...what do I need to do to connect them and drag files between them (sorry if this is a dumb question..I'm a dumb guy)
- Quit the Control Panel (it will ask you if you wish to consolidate the changes). You want to.
- open 'Chooser' (in Apple Menu)
- right corner below: make AppleTalk 'active'
- quit chooser.
- go To Control Panels
- choose File Sharing (this is only for the client: the computer whose HD will appear on the desktop of the other comp): choose: turn file sharing on (this will take a moment).
- if both of your comps are in OS 8 or 9, go to chooser now, (only of the comp on whose desktop the other comp has to appear). Click on file-sharing or something in the left pane. In the right pane the other computer's name should appear. Enter name and password (you can change these in the File Sharing control panel).
If you have one comp in OSX
do all the before said for the classic comp,
in OSX: open network system prefpane. (System Preferences).
Choose Network
Drop-down menu: choose ethernet
go to AppleTalk
check box: make Appletalk active.
go to Finder, open menu 'Go'
choose Connect to server.
wait for it to scan the network, it should show your other computer after a while. double click it and you're set.
If two OS X comps:
make appletalk active in both.
in one: open PrefPane Sharing; check personal file sharing.
In Jaguar you don't need to set-up a routed TCP/IP network. All you need to do is turn on File Sharing and assign two IPs within the same class C subnet...like 10.0.0.2 and 10.0.0.3. All you have to do after you enter the IPs in the Network prefpane is select "Connect to Server..." from the Go menu and enter the IP of the other computer.
I guarantee TCP/IP sharing will be faster than AppleTalk.
Comments
Put the ethernet cable between you two macs.
