This isn't just an excuse to tell you this is my 1000th post.
Really. It's not. Actually, my post count is pushing 2000, since I had about 900 or so (perhaps 800) when AI went into the great abyss.
Anyway, perhaps we can discuss how things were WAY back then.
1. When I orginally registered in January 2000, the big speculation was on Pismo. Many thought it would would be more transluscent and a big change from the Lombard. People also said G4. I didn't think it would happen. Despite the disappointment regarding the lack of case changes, I orded one the day it was released.
2. People were bitching about the 450/500mhz debacle.
3. There was actually serious debate on whether Macs or PC's were faster, especially in laptops.
I was here for the great workerbee days. Back then the hype was over UMA-2. Most importantly, there was real rumormongering going on. In July, AI scooped the Cube. I consider this to be the height of the boards. After this, things took a dive. The boards are still fun, but there a better energy back then I think.
Thoughts?

Oh and IBL.
What's wrong with nostalgia? Ah, those were the days.

Forgive me, but didn't you register in November 2001?

Yeah as SJPSU. I was a lurker in FutureHardware for far longer than that. Long enough to see the Blue & White theme on the front page and regular updates to it.
Let's see I've lived in two different places since I started posting here, had two different computers, I've changed a lot since 2000 and I've learned a lot more about Macs and computers in general.

don't forget women !

Too bad because i lost my post count and membership status
2001 i recall
Heres to more years of speculation based nowhere near in reality.
I told him he was totally off on his PowerBook G4 'prediction' because he said there would be only 1 firewire port. Whoops.
I was here when we were speculating about what the replacements for the beige G3s were going to look like (the rumors were for a cube shape (heh), and a translucent dark blue and grey scheme, like the original Studio Display).
I guess that was the end of 1998/very beginning of 1999. AI was brand new, and it was said to be not a rumor site, but a real insider info clearing house.
Exciting times.. too bad it didn't last that way for long.

Then it seemed to go down frequently for hours or days at a time in I think early 2001. I forgot my password on one of the longer times-out, and so I re-registered as BRussell. Then it went down again in the summer of 2001 (right?) not to return for months.
I think it was SDW who first got me into AppleOutsider with a thread about tax cuts during the 2000 campaign. I remember going away for a couple hours and there would be two new pages.

Yep, early 2001 was the beginning of the dark days. And I think the last time it went down was June 26th, one day after I got my iBook.
and the smokey guy is here

The limit was supposedly 7000 or a little over. Artificial if I were to chance a guess.
What happened, EmAn, is there a 4-digit post count barrier?

I'll get it back, don't worry
