What is PCI-X?



I am looking at this ATTO Fiber card and it supports PCI-X:

What PCs and mobos currently support it?



Who invented it?



Is this related to Hypertransport or its competitor? All these code names consude me!

I'm not quite sure on too much of PCI-X either, from what I remember I think it's supposed to be the next revision of the PCI standard... Extremetech has an overview of many coming bus technolgies here (the links to the PCI-X section are near the end of the page):
