Elgato Thunderbolt 3 Mini Dock provides 4K60 video, Gigabit Ethernet in small form factor
Elgato has announced the Thunderbolt 3 Mini Dock, providing 4K through either DisplayPort or HDMI in a very small enclosure.
Announced at the Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show, the Elgato Thunderbolt 3 Mini Dock has a single DisplayPort 1.2, one HDMI 2.0 with support for HDCP 2.2, a Gigabit Ethernet port, and a USB Type A port with support for UASP. The Thunderbolt 3 cable is integrated into the unit, and there does not appear to be a pass-through port for daisy-chaining additional Thunderbolt 3 devices downstream of the dock.
Elgato notes that the device "eliminates the need for four separate adapters without compromising data bandwidth or power delivery." The mock-up graphics provided to AppleInsider suggest that the device is bus powered, and has no ability to provide charging power as there is no external power source apparent. We have reached out to Elgato for clarification on power delivery.
Either macOS or Windows host systems can be connected to the dock, with Sierra or Windows 10 required as a minimum.
The Elgato Thunderbolt 3 Mini Dock will be available in spring 2018. Pricing has yet to be announced.
