Eliminate menus in finder

I was wondering if there is a way to hack the finder so I can get rid of some menus.

For example, I haven't used the Help, Edit, Go and Window menus for a very long time since I know the shortcuts. They take up space and are quite useless.

Just wondering.

You know, when I first saw this thread, I was hoping you were suggesting the idea of the ability to pull the entire menu bar off and turn it into a floating pallette a la IRIX.

I don't know that there is a reliable method of doing this in X, but I'm sure someone has figured it out...

Its probably in a .nib file somewhere. I don't think you can remove them without losing the shortcuts, too. If you can I'd be suprised. What are you gonna do with this space anyhow? <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

Yeah, that's correct. You lose the menu, the shortcuts will no longer work either. You might be able to put some of the menus inside others without problem though. Dunno what nib file to edit.

The Finder is carbon and uses mostly a hard coded GUI, not one that is based in nib files. You'll find that many "bad carbon ports" also do not use nibs, but there are some good carbon apps do.

Anyhow, none of the nibs the Finder has are related to the menus; so, you'll have to find a way to hack the actual executable code in the Finder to disable said menus.
