Device Advice
Hey everyone!!
I am wondering if I could float something here...
I have an older Macbook Pro {2008 or so} and was recently given an iPad Fifth Generation by a relative. I actually like my Macbook Pro and plan to keep it. But now I kind of have a problem...
I am physically disabled and only have the use or one hand. And I will be very honest. Touchscreens and I don't get along. So I really don't think that I could work with an iPad. But I need to get an upgraded Macbook {either Pro or Air} because I am working on an animated film using Photoshop and Fuse and OpenCL is greyed out on my computer. At this point I am looking at either trading in the iPad or selling it. Any ideas??
Get back to me on this please!
Thanks!
Dylan

The latest version needs a 2011 Macbook Pro model or newer. The 2011 models have defective GPUs so avoid them and stick with 2012 models or above.
The cheapest new Macbook Pro is a 2015 model so the entry price is really $2400. Apple has cheaper prices for older models here:
https://www.apple.com/shop/browse/home/specialdeals/mac/macbook_pro/15
The following have decent GPUs for OpenCL:
https://www.apple.com/shop/product/FLH32LL/A/Refurbished-154-inch-Macbook-Pro-26GHz-Quad-core-Intel-Core-i7-with-Retina-display-Space-Gray ($1849)
https://www.apple.com/shop/product/G0SG0LL/A/Refurbished-154-inch-Macbook-Pro-26GHz-Quad-core-Intel-Core-i7-with-Retina-display-Space-Gray ($2019)
If you get $500 for the other devices, you'd need to spend about $1350-1500.
The lowest model might suffice:
https://www.apple.com/shop/product/FJLQ2LL/A/refurbished-154-inch-macbook-pro-22ghz-quad-core-intel-i7-with-retina-display ($1699)
That would need spending about $1200.
The Macbook Airs are cheaper but they are older machines, have smaller displays and don't have Retina displays:
https://www.apple.com/shop/product/FMGG2LL/A/refurbished-133-inch-macbook-air-16ghz-dual-core-intel-core-i5 ($979)
That would only need spending $479. With a Retina display, you can scale the window to have more room to work or scale everything up so it's easier to read but if price is a big factor, the Air saves at least $700. If you can afford the extra, I would recommend one of the Macbook Pro options as the CPUs and GPUs are at least twice the speed and the display is bigger and better quality so it would offer a better user experience over the years of using the device.
