Nice mouse: mac compatible?

I've been looking for a good mouse to solve the one button dilemma on a prospective iBook purchase and after about 45 minutes of various iterations of Google searches, I found the Micro Trac handheld mouse at the link below. It may be kind of ugly, but it looks like it would work well on a laptop: zero desk space needed and it provides the second button. Now it says no software is required, but makes no mention of the Mac. Is there any reason it WOULDN'T work with an iBook? It does have USB.

I have a very old 2-button USB mouse that I picked up at a trade show. I didn't think it would work in OS 9, and true, the second button didn't. (The first did). Just for kicks, I used it in Quake 5-6 months later, and found that the second button works!

The question is, do you feel lucky?

Wow that thing's ugly... I guess if you don't mind the trackball that should work fine. Did I mention that thing looks ugly?

Hey, even I mentioned that it was ugly, and I'm the one who wants one. I think the consensus is that it's ugly. I'd think there would be more products similar to this, but the only other one I found was a $90 waterproof one called the Tuffy Mouse. This one was only thirty-something. I could see paying ninety if I had to dive with the thing, or maybe sixty if there were an optical version and I was drunk, but not ninety.

just get a wireless from kensington or just a plain kensington...or how about just a plain logitech mouse, two buttons, scroll wheel. I don't understand why people feel they need special mice for laptops.

Please do not buy this thing, it looks ugly and akward to use. Plus it looks OLD.

I don't see why it wouldn't. It's no different from any other two button mice.

    I've actually used that!

It sucks, horrible movement and precision, avoid it.

Aster, I was thinking of using a mouse on the train. A conventional mouse would require desk space, and a wireless mouse would be even worse. There's a chance of dropping it and it sliding away under the seats, which would be incredibly annoying. An ugly mouse I could deal with if it meant that I could get an iBook. I'm not going to use Excel without a second button; too annoying.

EDIT: oh, and thanks, Matsu. Nothing beats a first hand account.

    Found a better one:

This one is the same thing, but it's prettier and unequivocally claims to work with Macs. If only it had a scroll wheel (but I'll never be satisfied).

...i'd say your better off with a short corded optical mouse...this thing looks like $hi? for precision...the trackpad would be better.

...they have gotten a mouse to move by a chip planted into a monkey's brain i think, you could offer your services

sorry but this mouse looks uncomfortable and there is a reason this type of mouse didn't catch on

    what was that ? :raurhgh:

Well, using your 'book in a train is never easy. I think you should try it out.

On a train you're better off with control clicks! It shouldn't be so much of an issue on a laptop anyway since BOTH your hands are right there on the keyboard/trackpad anyway.
