Is there anyway of removing some of the software that comes preinstalled on OSX? for example i want to get rid of IE and ichat.

I take it you just drag and drop the folder into the bin but will that harm any system prefs?

cheers for any feedback.

Move to trash, delete, no other problems.

Just remember that once you've deleted the apps that come preinstalled, you may have trouble reinstalling them later if you change your mind.

To get back apps the Apple apps like iChat, Terminal, and DVD Player, you will have to either boot from the Install CD and reinstall everything or you'll have to use a tool like Pacifist to manually extract and install the various components you want. Neither of these are things most novice users (like switchers, perhaps) would want to mess with.

That depends on the type of restore cd's he's got. See <a href="http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=42929&amp;SaveKCWindowURL=http:% 2F%2Fkbase.info.apple.com%2Fcgi-bin%2FWebObjects%2Fkbase.woa%2Fwa%2FSaveKCToHomePa ge&searchMode=Assisted&kbhost=kbase.info.apple.com &showButton=false&randomValue=100&showSurvey=false &sessionID=anonymous|160030022" target="_blank">this kbase article</a>. It looks like apple finally got smart about this.
