What Do You Do When You

What do you do when you want to buy something that is new in the technology world but find that if you wait another 6 months or so you can get better for your money? Do you wait? Or buy knowing that when those 6 months come and pass your going to be in the same frame of mind thinking of waiting another 6 months? When do you say ?this is what I want and I don?t care if I can get more for my money in another 6 months time??

This is the dilemma I?m in right now and I?m sure other have been in before?.in the computer world you can feel ripped off after only 3 months of having a new computer as new and better for less or the same price come out. I don?t think there are people out there that like being ripped off. I sure don?t?.so what do you do?

I know that if your going to make money with the item then waiting for something better for the same money isn?t something you think about, you need it as soon as you can get it. But what if your just wanting to buy it for your personal use like family or friends? Can they wait?

I?d just like to know what people think about this subject and what they do as I?m sure they have thought about it at sometime when buying a computer, TV, digital or film camera, a console, Hi-Fi, DVD player, PDA and so on.

What would and do you do?

computers are the worst. you will always be screwed 6 months later, no mater what you do.

the other stuff is much slower, you're usually ok buying the other hardware w/o too much trouble.

with computers you're best off buying one or two steps below the high-end. that way you keep your screwing to a reasonable level.

Except of course when you buy an iMac. You won't be screwed for a year.

Unless you absolutely have to get it or just have money to through around, waiting is good. It depends on what you're talking about. If it's a completely new technology, wait a couple months for the price to drop. If you're debating whether to get the top of the line of something, or something a notch or two down, then get the product that's a notch or two down. The performance or feature set addtion at the high end is rarely worth the 15-20% (or more) premium you'll pay to be the first on the block to get it.

Also, first-generation of anything will usually have some bugs to be worked out, so waiting will allow the company time to find out and fix the little things that make the product better.

But with Macs, usually bugs are fixed usually because they were missed, as with some other companies that purposely leave products less finished, so the next version seems more desirable. What company is that anyway...

I assume you're a teenager with a very limited budget. Two rules:

    1) Wait for a new product announcement.

    2) At that time, you can get the latest, or the previous generation for a discounted price

Anyway, since you probably have the capacity to wait, I'd hold on until the 7457 or the 970 goes mainstream.

I bought an 800MHz PowerBook less than two weeks before the 1GHZ model hit. So whatever happens, you can't possibly be worse off than me.
