Both for creating that stunning new 17" Powerbook and for being able to keep it a secret.

Say what you will about Apple, they really can pull the bunny out of the hat when they want to.

while i agree he is a cut above average [possibly a genius], but credit should also be given to the hard-working people who actually made the pbooks. and possibly credit should go to the lawyers and their wonderful ndas threatening life, limb, and buckets full of cherries to the loose-tongued. but i dread the day when people praise lawyers, and their gosh-danged cherry buckets; so quash the previous sentiment.

i dont think stevo had a great deal of contribution besides barking at the worker-bees: "make me a great computer, dangit". maybe he doesn't bark, or say dangit, but i dont think he comes up with the particulars and specifics of the products. viva la revolución.

I'll say it again, he's a freak, but he's the freak for Apple. I don't think they could have done the products they've just shown without Stevo. For all the talk of an Apple culture, it has waivered this way and that far too much over he course of its history (that could be a corporate failing) Steve, right or wrong, seems to set them on a path and keep them focused to specific values. Unfortunately, price is not one of them, and they will have to tackle that demon at some point. The important part of what seems to be happening at Apple right now isn't just that nice stuff is getting made, it's that the people at Apple are learning to think Apple, they're building a language and philosophy that (if done right) should outlast Jobs. Is he a genius or a psychopath? iDunno, but he's the appropriate mix to get Apple pointed the right way around.
