Bill O'Reilly had a guest on "The O'Reilly Factor" that is a talk show host, the topic was about Eminem and his influence on culture. Bill O"Reilly made a statement saying that if kids today imitate Eminem and show up to IBM with a tatoo on their neck or a nose ring etc they wouldnt get the job. He said no straightlaced company would hire these people in todays world.

THE LADY GUEST REPLIED: WELL APPLE MIGHT HIGHER SOMEONE LIKE THAT

BILL THE SAID: WELL THATS JUST---

and then they went on to different stuff.

Just sorta sounded like bad press for Apple, i know they are liberal but linking them with Eminem is a little over the top.

What kind of defense is "WELL APPLE MIGHT HIGHER SOMEONE LIKE THAT" I mean, come on that is the best excuse the lady could come up with against Bill O'Reilly "Slayer of Liberals ?" ? Jeez.

Some years ago, I heard Mr. O'Really ranting about potatoe chip companies making their bags smaller but keeping the price the same. He was upset because they weren't telling the public that they made the bags smaller.. I am glad I don't have cable tv...

The lady said that about Apple to make the point that a hippie type person or a person that wears rings and tatoos could get a tech job. O'Reilly seemed to just have utter distaste for Apple by dismissing the statement. I am probably the only one who caught it anyway.

This isn't anything to get torqued up about.

I just dont like Apple to be portrayed as a rediculous institution, it isnt good for its reputation if people view the company as too radical.

ha ha, to me that seems like good press.

Apple, the company that will hire you based on who you are, not what you look like.

seems ok to me. i'm sorry, but in the creative, artful, innovative culture business suits are bad.

While I totally agree with this statement (i mean Steve is in jeans at every macworld) I think that Apple is maybe portrayed as a joke because they are so liberal. "Apple, the company that will hire you if you are gay and have a nose ring but wont hire the guy in a suit."

They hire people of all types, they dont JUST hire people in specific demographics.

Bill O'Reilly used to be a tabloid anchor. His job is rooted in and still highly involved in spreading mud against whoever his opponent may be. The truth is inconsequential to whatever he says.

I think if he had something to say about Apple he should have articulated it instead of brushing it away and looking like an idiot.

I'm glad they didn't realize they were actually complimenting Apple!

Who cares what someone wears as long as they know what they are doing... I mean... Eminem should not be hired simply because he is a no talent idiot, not because of what he wears.

They should have checked out the movie "Pirates Of Silicon Valley" before doing the show...

In that movie Steve wont hire a guy just because he looks like an IBM-kind-a-guy!

He wants people thats diffrent, looks diffrent and acts diffrent... And of course, thinks diffrent!

O'Reilly is very smart. He is in show business, not news business. He gets under the skin of the people he interviews and knows how to make them squirm and give them a hard time. Big deal. This type of "journalism" goes back to the 1930s. By the way the word is "hire" not "higher" (the latter may have a drug implication, yes? )

It goes back even further than that. Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst's "yellow press" set the stage for sensationalism way back in the 1890's.

Well, O'Reilly routinely trounces Larry and Phil, so someone obviously likes what he's doing. And how he does it.

    It's no accident.

    Anyway.

Personally, I like it that Apple might be seen as "out there" or whatever. I'll never wear a suit or tie I don't have to "fit in" and play with Excel and PowerPoint for a living.

I'm probably the most conservative person in this forum and I have to say that:

    1) Bill O' Rielly is the WWF star of journalism. His job is to pull somebody on his show and jump all over them. His positions on things are so inconsistent that he's not very effective as a serious advocate or opponent for anything.

    2) Apple is VERY liberal. As long as they don't start donating or investing in anything I would consider wrong, I couldn't care less who works for them. I like their product, that's why I like Apple.

    3) Steve Jobs is even more of an entertainer than O' Rielly. While he did seem to heroically pull Apple from certain death, he is not the "Savior" people seem to see him as. He's a celebrity, not an actual CEO. Nevertheless, I'm not buy Steve Jobs, I'm buying his product.

    4) People need to put some things into perspective. Who cares if Apple is put down in some segment on some cable show. If they do the same to your favorite auto macufacturer or clothes manufacturer, you wouldn't be near as upset. It's disturbing how religiously devoted people have become to a computer manufacturer.

Hey, IBM does hire people with bright blue hair. I don't know about nose rings, though...

Jesus Pscates, I have to actually take a required course in Microsoft Office at my college. How ridiculous is that!? I wrote on the course comment sheet: "I have no desire to learn the convoluted nuances of a bloated, feature-superfluous "productivity" suite." I laughed out loud when she called the Office Help Assistant "that annoying little creature in the bottom right hand of your screen." I definitely didn't fit in.

I'd never heard of that before! I have Office v.X and it's okay, but I guess it's "industry standard" and a tool that must be learned.

I was poking around in Excel one night. Man, I haven't got a CLUE!

BTW, my ex's professor has a Titanium PowerBook and OS X and my ex says that she (the prof) has made - in class - 3 or 4 VERY pro Apple statements out loud.

She said someone asked her one day, in front of everyone, "doesn't that crash a lot?"

And the professor just looked at him and said "No, it's a Mac. And it's running OS X. Anything else?"

    My kinda educator!
