Prices of the new Powerbooks, while reasonable may be not be as following recent price reductions from Intel.

Yeah, yeah, I know it doesn't run OSX...but just showing how damn hard it is to compete price wise against Wintel.

Intel lowers laptop chip prices

Associated Press

Santa Clara, Calif. ? Intel Corp. is lowering prices by as much as 38 per cent on some microprocessors designed for laptop computers as the company prepares to introduce a new line later this year.

Under new prices effective Sunday, the Santa Clara-based company offered reductions ranging from 10 per cent on a Celeron microprocessor running at 1.8 gigahertz to 38 per cent on a Pentium 4 chip that runs at 2.2 gigahertz.

Together, Intel lowered the prices on nine different chip sets.

The price cuts are "very routine," Intel spokesman Chuck Mulloy said.

Intel reduced the prices just a few days after announcing plans for a new laptop chip set called Centrino.

Although it will be slower than Intel's existing processors, the Centrino should use less power to extend the battery life of laptops. The chip also will be tailored to take advantage of built-in wireless networks.

What the hell does a processor have to do with networking.

The processor isn't the only thing in the computer. There are many other things that factor in to the price. The 12" AlBook, IMO, is more than what you pay for. Usually, you get what you pay for.
