no idea, that is the main reason i, and most everyone, uses a mac. between OS X and iApps apple dominates ease of use and GUI.
...its like they want people to buy the computer and then find out it doesn't run windows and be trapped
if OS X was publically known better i think apple would be better off, because when my friends use it or hear me talk about it, they are interested, but they dont think macs are compatible or are worth paying more for, they need to be shown
There was some potential OS X ads on Apple's site for a spell, but then they got taken off. I have them on my site for those that want to see them. They are the Express yourself, zoom, etc. potential ads. They are under the Macs tab if you are interested.
But, I kind of have to question whether people would really see a difference in a 30 sec. slot. I think, and have thought for a while that Apple should be different and advertise a 2-3 min. clip before movies in the theatre. You know there is exposure with all the blockbusters, and most everyone is paying attention to the screen. I think it is the perfect slot for a full-fledged ad campaign. Just a thought.
Because Mac OS X is essentially represented by the "Mac experience" as a whole now, so every ad for a Mac is an advertisement for Mac OS X.
However, that shouldn't stop Apple from advertising the more non-tactile benefits of using Mac OS X in ads, such as those Jaguar movies that were pulled.
I was just thinking about this tonight. There should be an OS X ad that touts one of my most used and reliable features: sleep.
When I used to use windows, I never used the suspend function because it was absolutely never reliable. Once I got a Mac, OS 9's sleep was usable, but sometimes it would take a couple seconds to wake up (appletalk, etc).
On OS X, I never have a problem with sleep or waking up.
Something like:
Your computer needs its beauty sleep. And dontcha wish you could wake up as quickly, bright-eyed and ready to go? OS X. Sleep soundly. Think different.
Advertise the OS? Maybe. I always find the demonstration of an OS on TV sorta...virtual. No realistic in terms of what it's speed and look is like. But showing OS X's features would be good...
I still think that Apple should advertise their stores...period. I don't like Apple's marketing of their stores at all. If they did I think they'd be swamped with the curious and interested in what Macs can really do.
I only asked this question about half a bazillion times for over a year now. Granted, 10.1 wasn't QUITE there, but since Jaguar, there is simply no excuse for Apple not to tout their OS (and whole "way of doing things") to the masses.
Face it: as pretty and snazzy as the hardware is (and it is), the reason every single one of use use, advocate, evangelize and stick with the Mac is its operating system.
Nowhere is it written that Apple would have to show a dry, uninteresting commercial that only appealed to geeks and would go over the head of most consumers or potential "switchers".
All those cool little "holy cow!" things that Jobs routinely shows in the keynotes...why can't stuff like that (with cool music in the background and perhaps a cool, well-liked and hip celebrity doing the demo) be modified for a commercial.
No, not Jeff Goldblum. Someone with a little more relevance and impact. Sure, if this was 1986 and "Transylvania 6-5000" was out in theaters.
This is what kills me: we all know the famous, influential and cool people who use Macs. We all know that Apple has kick-ass stuff (hardware AND software, plus the OS itself). We know they've got a great visual style. We know they've made good commercials at one point.
WHY are they letting all the above just go to seed?
I'll never, ever understand their apparent lack of interest or motivation to singing their own praises and "getting the word out".
In answer to this thread's starting question: I have no earthly $#%!% idea.
If anyone figures it out, let me know because I'm totally at a loss.

there were good, and last could have been ad's
bad ad's are better than no ad's
There are probably people out there that are looking for a better computing experience, but think the WINDOWS way is the ONLY way there are computers

And hopefully the ads will show how OSX beats the crap out of Wins XP!
