Used Cube or wait for iMac II?
Please help me solve this brain-splitting dilemma.
I finally have a budget available to get me a Mac and after over a year of lurking all over the net for information and Apple-titbits, I still feel like I have no clue what to buy...
Now to the situation at hand:
I saw an ad for a used cube: G4 450 20HD 1GB RAM DVD drive + 17.4" Formac TFT (8 months old) for € 1750. I hope to be able to get the price down somewhat though + I would need to buy an extra FW CD-RW burner (approx € 230) (I know, Hardware is fscking expensive here )
Now, I would use the cube for net browsing, ripping cd's, mail, iApps, the lighter stuff.
But of course, the ImacII is being expected to be announced within a few days and it will probably have faster procs, better video, 17" screen (19"??), combo drive...and maybe even lower prices if Apple does what they did with the excellent iBook line.
Any suggestions?

Wait for the iMac...it won't be cheaper per se, but it will probably be double the speed mhz wise.
Wouldn't a 450 Mhz G4 be fast enough for my (modest) purposes, running OSX,and stuff like surfmailripmixburn?
After all, up to a few days ago, I was still looking to buy a used iMac CRT
Should I be concerend about flaws in the Cube design or its life-expectancy?
Any cube owners care to comment?
Well, a friend of mine has a 400 Mhz Quicksilver with 512 MB RAM and he rarely ever has speed issues with OSX.

Probably not since the Quicksilver is 733 Mhz at least.
The 400 Mhz version is a sawtooth, just like my machine.
I would wait for the iMac. I have a G4 400 AGP Radeon with 512 Mb ram, and OSX is okay to use, but not Xtreme...
You will be pleased to go for the iMac so it lasts a few more years into the future, and furtheron, the iMac will be much more usable if you want to play a single 3D game or something.

oops, my bad (and this after a over a year of lurking around here )
Anywoo, my brain says you guys are right, but my heart goes out to the cube...
Who will win? Stay tuned to find out !
The next iMac, on the other hand, will have probably an 800-1000 MHz G4, and a 17" LCD, and a combo drive (or super drive if you want), for the same amount of money. No brainer for me.
To get a Cube up to the iMac's specs would cost a TON, too, because Cube owners are obsessed with upgrading their machines way farther than they were supposed to. Finding a better graphics card than the Rage 128 will be tough, and they'll all be overpriced because Cube owners will pay way more than they should for graphics cards that fit (such as the GeForce 2 MX, the GeForce 3, and the Radeon 7500).
Meanwhile, the iMac's ergonomics will be better.
if u have the money, go with a iMac
the only thing cube has on iMac is look
Maybe I should just wait for the cube2 to come out...
OK
iMacII it is then, now where is that confirmed tread announcing 1.5 Mhz G5 iMacs next tuesday...
