Mac Mini Advice

My son wants a Mac Mini for Christmas and I have purchased him a Mid 2012 Mac Mini built-in 500GB hard drive and 16GB Ram and then I found a much better deal on a 2011 Mac Mini built-in 500GB hard drive and 8GB Ram that also has a 240GB SSD drive installed.  I am wondering which is better:  to change the 16GB to the 2011 and keep it with the extra 240GB SSD; or should I remove the 240GB SSD from the 2011 and install it on the Mid 2012 with the 16 GB already.  PLEASE HELP!  I am a beginner, but I have watched a ton of YouTube videos and I believe I have the tech savvy and could do either.

If the 2012 model is a quad-core, that would be the better model. If it's just an i5 in both, there's less difference but the 2012 model also has a better GPU. To build the best out of both, the SSD would go in the 2012 model. 240GB isn't a lot of storage though. It may be worth getting a new SSD for it and leave the 240GB in the 2011 model:
