i'm coming to you now from winXp because ME crashed ever 3 min...i'll probably be updating you on things as it goes on...besides being less ugly, it doesn't seem to crash as much.



everything is GIANT now though, 1152x864 and still too much screen space is taken up by the task bar and window menu bars!

    Win XP may have lotsa security issues, but it is generally quite stable and doesn't crash easily. I dun like to say this, but my Mac has crashed more times than my XP desktop.....

    Change the theme.

    Change the theme and resize the window elements like the title bar, border, etc. With the XP theme, you want to keep the title bar an odd pixel width, otherwise widgets become off-centered.

    Xp doesnt crash as much than previus versions because it uses the NTFS file system, but give it time and things will become very unstable.

    The more you install and uninstall the worse it gets!

    well than i'm glad i'm installing lots of things, and unintalling them after i dont like them





    i got it to crash last night but that is just because i didn't update to service pack 1 so i still had that memory leak that caused the crash i think

    Service pack of many more to come I'd believe...most Windows OS's have a shelf life of 6 months...then it's reformat and re-install...that easy...uh...no...waittaminnit...forget it... <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

    What Mac OS are you running? Because any computer would be hard pressed to crash less than my computer running 10.x. Since I switched up to X from 9 almost exactly a year ago, I think I could count the kernel panics I've had on one hand. Since installing Jaguar back in August (or spetember, or whenever it was) I've had exactly 1, and my computer is on all the time. Literally 24/7, often for several weeks at a time. I can't speak quite so highly for the stability of 9, but X is rock solid.

    0_O.... im now on an XP machine here at school... THis is the only lab here with PCs... Its decent.. but im gonna be REAL happy to get home to my BEAUTIFUL iBook. ^_^

    I use WinXP quite a bit and there's a fair bit you can do about that.



    1. Right click the window menu bar and uncheck "Lock the toolbars". Now you can drag them around, merging 2 bars into one and all that.



    2. Right click the window menu bar again and click "customize" - from there you can select text options, icon sizes and what icons you want (and what you want to remove) on your bar.



    3. I personally like to keep the taskbar on the left-hand side of the screen and set to "auto-hide" (again right click the TB and select properties)



    4. After you arrange one folder to the way you like it, go under the Tools menu and select "Folder Options", select the View tab and click "Apply to all folders".



    5. You can also Right-click on the desktop and select Properties -&gt; Appearance Tab -&gt; Advanced and set sizes for everything (titlebars, fonts, widgets, spacing, etc.), lots of customization there.
