How do you migrate a single user to another multiuser computer?

I have a new(er) iMac with a single user that I would like to migrate to my old(er) iMac that has 3 users (1 is admin).   I only want to add the single user as an additional user on my iMac.  In this way i can retain the integrity of the user I would like to migrate.  My thought is to then do a time machine backup and restore everything over to the newer iMac.   I have external drive space i can use.   Is this possible, and if so can someone explain how to do this?  Thanks!

    Sorry. Forgot to mention that oddly the new(er) iMac is on Yosemite, and the old(er) on is on El Capitan.
