In the Staff Rants Section, The questions are:

Q1: What app would you love to see Apple create?

Q2: What app do you hope Apple stays away from?



The best answer to Q1, in my opinion, comes from Kris Fong:



" iStudio - a multitrack audio recording and sequencing app that'd work its magic for musicians in the way iMovie does for aspiring movie makers. And, of course, it'd be free."



Damn, I am all for that. My band is currently recording right now and I would kill for something like this.

What do you all think are some good responses to these questions? Your own perhaps?

    Q1 - Two apps - (1) An office productivity suite that offers a viable alternative to Office (in keeping with Apple's support of the open source movement, perhaps it could throw its support behind OpenOffice for OS X [with Aqua interface]) and (2) Video-conferencing (yes, I know Jobs said watch this space, but we have been watching for sometime with no apparent results)



    Q2 - They should not develop niche products that are only likely to be used by a small part of the market - all the effort should be on beefing up mainstream applications (such as they have done with Safari)

    I agree, that's the app missing from the Digital Life Style app collection. I have had use for it many times to edit my MP3's. <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

    iStudio isn't that far from reality, since Apple does own LogicAudio.

    This is on the new 17" iMacs, hopefully its the first tiny step towards a new iApp.



    I want a news reader either built into mail or safari.

    I want iTV, a nice apple style app that would let you use your mac as a digital VCR. Have some little firewire box you hook your cable up to.

    IStudio? Sounds like a niche app. Something Apple shouldn't waste time on. Sorry.

    There have already been rumors of Apple possibly delivering a small multitrack/Midi recorder called iTraks. Whether it's a nich app or not doesn't matter. With the eMagic purchase it's fairly trivial to take Micrologic AV strip it down and add a Brushed Metal UI.



    What Apple should be promoting with this tool to end users and developers alike is the ease of using CoreAudio and CoreMidi with Audio Unit effects. Just as iDVD and iMovie are creating "Cottage Industries" selling low cost plugins iTraks could created opportunities for effects developers to sell their wares. Think about it. All you need to do is add a lowcost USB keyboard and a microphone and you have instant mini studio. It is a niche but a cool one
