NAS that supports Mac File Naming
I've got a NETGEAR 2-unit Orbi wireless mesh network in my apartment. I've been thinking about getting a 2-bay NAS networkable RAID (RAID 1) for backups, music and file sharing. I'd use 8TB Seagate IronWolf NAS drives. I do not like anything from Western Digital.
I setup an NAS several years back and it was running some mutant OS which required me to change file names on literally thousands of files (I think it took 2 days!). It was in an all-Mac OS X architectural office, running Vectorworks, so there were LOTS of file names with typical Mac file name characters, such as "Door 8'-0" x 3'-0" Wood.
How weird that a 21st Century OS would NOT allow common punctuation symbols in file names!
I REALLY want to avoid having to jump through hoops AND have to spend days not only rename MY thousands of files, but have to think about changing my file naming conventions going forward.
OKAY. So NAS that look interesting: NETGEAR NAS212, Sinology DS218+, Buffalo LinkStation 220, QNAP TS251+
Suggestions?
Thanks!

So, I’ll be able to use any Mac file name? (Minus : and / of course) Excellent.
The Synology NAS units look great.
Do you know if it’s possible to have multiple Time Machine backups on them?
Keep a global iTunes library on it, as well, for streaming around to multiple networked devices?
2 Macs, 2 iPad Pro 11”, 2 iPhone XS and 2 Apple TVs? Maybe Bluetooth speakers?
Thanks!
