MBP Touch Bar

I have used Macs for several years. Last year I bought a 15" MBP.  Recently the function keys on the Touch Bar stopped working past F4. I took it into the Genius Bar for diagnosis and they discovered a slight nick on the Touch Bar that I didn't even notice but could feel once they pointed it out. They said that this was the reason it wasn't working properly and that since it was accidental damage I would have to pay for the repair....$548!!!!! That is insane. The keyboard costing 25% of the cost of a new MBP.  There is no way I am going to pay that so now I will have to use a separate keyboard so that I can use it for business as I do have use for the Function keys past F4!  How can they design something where one part that is not internal to the computer is so frigging expensive.

The same way you can buy something so frigging expensive that you are using for your business but decide on not buying the AppleCare Plus. I never understand why people spend $3000 for a Mac to use for their business life and not buy the AppleCare Plus? The nick was your fault after all. AppleCare Plus would've covered it.
