Six to Nine Monthes Out
Steve has made reference to "six to nine months" as a time frame a few times this week. I've grabbed the few I could find:

Jobs said, according to a Reuters report . "We play the hand we're dealt. We don't see things getting better in the next six months, probably the next nine months, and that's as far as our headlights go out."

Wireless streaming of iTunes was given as a feature coming six to nine months out by Steve during the Stevenote.

And then, in his iSync demo Steve mentioned the future (though not 6-9 months specifically) at least three times. He mentioned syncing photos to phones, SonyEricsson phones that would be more versatile within the year, and again and again how iSync would be pivotal in the future.

I wonder what everyone thinks about this future-oriented angle. He mentioned the future, not in a wishful sort of way, but almost with a tone of regret in his voice. He sounded very much like he was holding back.
My spin is that there is a specific product or set of products that is ready that will bring all of this stuff together, but the economic downturn has gotten so severe that Apple was afraid to release anything except a windows ipod and a large screen imac. Those are the only two items that are assured some level of success. Beyond that, the consumer side at least looks very shaky. I think there was an iDevice ready and waiting that would put this stuff together, but is going to have wait for a sustained economic turnaround before it gets released.
so, what do you all make of this?

1. Increase their presence in the consumer market with iApps and integrations. Simple but effective
2. Make inroads in Desktop Digital Video/Audio. FCP is taking off and now has a growing number of Pro Apps that will support it.
3. Ensure Apple is at the Technical forefront with support for Bluethooth and Wireless Tech.
More is certain to come. Apple's not waiting for undecisive 3rd parties anymore. The ISV(Independant Software Dev) is being minimized on both platforms. Those that want to compete..must do it well.
This is the new Computer Economy.

Apple at it's current marketshare will NEVER be able to compete with the X86 market which has Taiwan firmly entrenched as a Tech base.
Mac users keep "dreaming" about Hardware Fantasies but it's not going to happen. Apple will always lag back a bit but where they will excel in their SW to HW integration which will help.

Yes.
faster G4's, up to 1.4 Ghz (this is what you get with the 0.13 die shrink)
new bus (obviously ddr, probably 266 MHz, probably XServe style)
At 9+ months, possibly a new CPU (PPC CPU, no possibility it will be AMD)

Yes he wants to increase marketshare but he realizes(IMO) the way to do it is to offer a very stable and cohesive environment for OS X. Jobs knows that Hardwarewise Apple will most likely trail but they can be leagues ahead in software. Given the choice of superlative Hardware versus Software ...I personally would take the software as long as the Hardware was close.
