New iMac 17 vs new Power Mac G4 Dual 1.25GHz

Oh the challenges to switch...first I had decided to go with the new iMac 17, then starting comparing the iMac 17 with Power Mac G4 Dual 1.25GHz. Most of time spent with computers (about 8-10 hrs daily)involves extensive multi-tasking involving being on the Internet at the same time using two ISP's (AOL and Road Runner); heavy business apps especially Excel and Word; AIM; and CD burning both audio and data backup. I track stocks, news, and weather on continuous basis as it impacts investments and small business.

My First question is would the new iMac 17 with 1G RAM be sufficient for my needs?

or Second, do I need to go to the Power Mac 1.25? Because I have very good monitor (Trinitron), the difference in costs betweem iMac 17 and Power Mac is about $450 for the comparable configurations.

BUT, one issue concerning the Power Mac is the NOISE...some of the forum threads indicate that the noise level of the new Power Mac's is better...my office is kept fairly cool and large but my hearing is more senstive than normal

Advice please???????????

You're multitasking, but those apps aren't that intensive.

The display on the 17" iMac is great - the width would allow you to see lots of ticker windows, etc at once. The fan is also whisper quiet, and I'm sure it would be fine with 1 GB of RAM. If you have *anything* else going on in the room, you will not hear the fan.

As long as you get a quiet hard drive, they should be almost silent. I'll vote iMac.

Only other thing to consider is the display you already have... do you have another use for it by chance?

I have to say at $450 I'd go for the Dual. I'm using an iMac now and after using iMovie 3 for the first time I want to upgrade something fierce.

Since I have so much problem multi-tasking with MS (Win 98 and XP), I was not sure that iMac would be OK even with 1G RAM...good news is that I can sell monitor to neighbor who is eager to own. Thanks for response

Is your iMac the new iMac 17 or different one?

    Thanks for your response
