How many people have gotten the *really* new PowerMacs?

It seems like last August, there were tons of people buying brand new dual 867s and dual 1000 machines... but now there don't seem to be many posts by people with new single GHz and dual 1.25s. I suppose the single GHz is a pretty cruddy deal compared to a refurbished dual 867, but the dual 1.25 seems like a very good deal. Who has a new PowerMac here?

On the other hand, those 12" PowerBooks seem to be real popular. Maybe just because they're novel, there are more posts about them. And I'd definitely say Apple has much better deals on laptops than desktops now.

Of course with the upcoming 970 (which Apple would be insane not to jump on), I'm guessing a lot of you are holding off buying a PowerMac until you can get a 970.

Hrm...i have just bought a dual-867 to tide me over until PPC970 PowerMacs appear - and at least revision 2.

A lot of people seem to be holding back...

That's exactly what I've done...a dual 867 to tide me over into 970 Rev B.

I'm thinking about talking work into getting me a dual 1.42. Since I started there a year ago I've been using a Ti 550, and its just not cuttin' it anymore. I would love to wait for the 970 but I need a tower now... and a 20" cinema

Anybody else gonna go for a D 1.42

I'm just peachy with my Dual 450. It would be nice to have a faster box for combustion, but really, the 450 is getting the job done - no need to spend the cash to upgrade now.

When people say they need a faster box, I really sometimes wonder what they're doing with it Aside from 3D and really demanding animation/compositing (broadcast/film), I just wonder

But combustion runs great on my dual 450.

I'm using the new dual 1.25Ghz here with the 17" studio display. It is good enough. Can't wait for the "rumors" 970. I added the tower to 1.25GB RAM and a couple HDs anyway. It is neat. <img src="graemlins/cancer.gif" border="0" alt="[cancer]" />

Yea I wonder too , but in my defence, I'm an art director, and what I do at work ranges from web, to print, to video w/ final cut pro. And at home, audio/music production, web, and 2d/3d animation on a 933 quicksilver.

I do interactive design and broadcast post production, and rarely do I go, "Dammit, this machine just isn't cutting it!"

I guess if I had a lot more money I'd upgrade, but the price to performance ratio doesn't justify it for me combustion can feel slow at times, but I can deal...

Are you running 9 or X? I would prob have an eaiser time if I just ran 9, but I really cant go back to that. Also mines a laptop so slower HD graphics card etc. But when I'm working on say a highrez print project it really brings it to a crawl, going back an forth with photoshop and illustrator, I see the beach ball allot. hell even using mail is slow. In final cut pro its ok cuz I'm just in one program (I dont mind wating for renders), but when I need to get around fast with multiple programs open it gets really frusterating. My deadlines are really tight and I'm alwase doing 3 things at once. Plus I'm thinking if I get a big lcd (the 15" screen is just to small) its gonna make the ti even slower?

I'm figuring I will see a pretty big performance difference between a Ti 550 and a dual 1.42 tower. Besides the Ti wont go to waste, it will upgrade someone else at work from there (gumdrop) imac

    Answer: Speed envy

When you see other people's PCs running the same app at 2x-3x the speed you will start to wonder what is going wrong with their macs

The current PM really sucks sucks sucks sucks on price/performance thing. That would be stupid for any of us who own a Slowsilver or newer machines to buy anything now!
