Eh... well this depends on your (or cousin's situation).

    1) The college may offer institutional pricing to individuals, in which case you can just click on the Apple Store for Edu and click on institution purchases and see the prices.

    2) Some colleges offer unique deals to their students that are very good... I think I remember reading a while back Stanford selling Powerbooks at quite good prices (is it Bodhi who mentioned this? Can't remember.)

    3) You may be referring to the ADC Student prices, which are prices for college students who are taking developer-related (read: programming) courses and have bought an ADC student membership. With this, you get a once-per-lifetime approx. 20% discount on one system.

You can just go to the Apple Store and click on higher education, then type in his school.

Yep, as said the ADC gives you the 20% (I think) discount but you have to drop $99 on it -- but it's cool. You get a Jaguar t-shirt, a whole nicely boxed resource kit, and monthly developer updates. Plus, if you're interested - can go to the WWDC (which might be especially good this year).

If he's really price-stuck, though -- eBay is a good place to find great deals. I got this TiBook 867 with 768MB RAM and pre-installed AirPort card, in practically new condition, for just over $2,000 --- $2075 plus shipping/insurance. It ended up being less than what I could have gotten for from the ADC program (not including the fact that Apple charges state sales tax). So I ended up doing that and just using my ADC to get an extra battery -- I'll wait to use my once-in-a-lifetime system discount until perhaps next FALL!!!

yes, as stated some schools pass on their institution prices to the students. Stanford does this and so do the UCs and I think USC.

Elsewhere I have no idea. Varies on the school i would imagine and whether they have big apple contracts

To second applenut, the bookstore at UCSB is consistently $50 cheaper than the online edu store and occassionally even have ridiculous deals like free Applecare on powerbooks.
