I've stopped buying anything without a USB-C connector last year. But the labeling is a mess for anything less than TB3 which does it all (data, power, displays, ethernet, etc,.). Hopefully with the move to TB4/USB4 we'll finally see the death of the USB-A AND the AppleLighting connector on new hardware.
If USB4 will be backwardly compatible for USB3, will it also be backwards compatible to Thunderbolt 3? And will there be a Thunderbolt 4, or is it being folded into USB?

The article says yes to both.
Will there be a TB4? I think so — but probably not for a very long time.
