Well it can be true, if you are more comfortable in your environment you will make better stuff. Like writing in a dark closet vs. on top of a mountain. Although I guess it depends what you are writing
The intuitive nature of Macs lets your creative juices flow. You don't have to stop and think 'how do I do this', so you're free to concentrate on your work.
I was at the Apple stiore the other day and just standing there toying with hte Powerbooks I had all these ideas running through my head and I wanted to just get one right ther and take it home and sit around somewhere and create....

I must be under the illusio nthat if someone had a Mac they'd be able to write better but we all know that's not true....ha ha ha ha
Plus, a writer using a Mac is much less likely to have her 500 page book obliterated by a virus.

Typically authors want something that looks nice and does the job without interfering with the creative flow. Doesn't sound like a Dell to me...
