Apple Notes - filter notes not in folder

I use Notes a lot. When creating a new note it by default is not added to a folder, which leads to most of my notes being not categorized and ending up in the ‘root’. Examples of folders I have is: “brainstorm ideas”, “meeting notes”, “friend suggestions”.
Is there a clever hack where I can either:
1) “show notes not in folder”, so that I can empty out that view (aka: use this view to move notes into one of my folders)?
2) or make Notes ask every-time I create a new note in which folder it belongs?
