The timing would make sense form a marketing standpoint. They could get the advert to the types that want/need supermacs so that it coincides with release/availability yet at the same time takes pains not to reveal the actual product untill Steve says so.
It could be kinda cool, advert-wise. Just a plain white page with the Apple logo and the message. the print version of the MWSF build-up.
they dont know any more than we do. all they know is Apple ALWAYS has an incrimental upgrade in augest for their Powermacs and Imacs and are just assuming the same will happen this year (which prolly will).
and since anythign faster than 1ghz is "breaking the 1ghz barriar", they go ahead and publish it to get more hits on their website.

Apple is unlikely to base a campaign on being able to smash the gigahertz barrier. They have spent much of this year trying to counter the Intel led 'megahertz myth', and even if the processors clocked in at 1.5 gigahertz, this would still not be enough to compete in a basic numbers game.

FSB bandwidth has been 'stuck' at 850Mb/s for a while
maybe a creative obfuscation on their part to get clock cycle addicts to tune in, while the real performance gain boosts into the Gig range for ALL internal ops
