Apple has won its first drama award as Billy Crudup has taken the best supporting actor gong at the Critics Choice Awards. His role as Cory Ellison in "The Morning Show was the only nomination for an Apple TV+ show.

He beat six other nominees for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, including Peter Dinklage for "Game of Thrones," Tim Blake Nelson for "Watchmen," and Delroy Lindo for "The Good Fight."

Of their shows, only Crudup for Apple TV+ and Lindo for CBS All Access represented streaming services. The other nominees were from NBC and cable channels HBO and Showtime. Crudup's award follows "The Morning Show" being shut out at the Golden Globes.

The Critics Choice Award is general regarded as one of the more prestigious ceremonies, and its film categories are said to be a strong predictor of how Oscar voting will go.

The series is also in contention for the forthcoming Screen Actors Guild awards on January 19. Billy Crudup is again nominated, this time for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series, as us his "Morning Show" cast mate Steve Carell. Jennifer Aniston is nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series.

"The Morning Show" completed its first 10-episode season in December 2019 and is expected to return in 2020.

If they say so. I thought Mark Duplass was much more convincing.

Surprised netflix’s Mindhunter hasn’t shown up anywhere...excellent writing and acting, many directed by David Finches.

Congrats to Billy Crudup, but The Morning Show..... eh.  Not impressed.  Apple TV+ is going to need some better shows if they expect me to pay even $5 a month for it.

So many standout performances on that show, especially (IMO) the supporting cast. Crudup and Duplass were both stellar, as usual. I haven’t been rocked by the AppleTV+ selection so far, but TMS was (IMO) the best, and For All Mankind was quite fun. The rest haven’t pulled me in yet.
