Live Apple Music lyrics arrives on Mac with second macOS 10.15.4 beta

Following a launch alongside iOS 13 in September, Apple Music's lyrics visualizer debuted on Mac this week with the second beta release of macOS 10.15.4, granting users direct access to real-time, scrolling song lyrics.

Issued on Wednesday, the latest macOS 10.15.4 beta version includes an updated Apple Music app that incorporates support for live lyrics.

Launched as part of iOS 13, live lyrics enables Apple Music listeners to sing -- or lip-sync -- along to their favorite hits with a visualizer that scrolls through song lyrics in real time.

Integrated into Apple Music's track playback window, users can manually browse a song's lyrics or allow the app to automatically scroll in time with the music, similar to a karaoke system. The feature is currently restricted to iOS, but its presence in today's macOS beta strongly suggests an imminent launch on Mac.

Like its iOS counterpart, the lyrics feature on Mac is accessed by clicking on a speech balloon icon containing a closing quotation mark. The button, which in existing iterations of Apple Music for macOS displays static lyrics, is located in the top right corner of the screen next to the Up Next menu icon. Those static lyrics are replaced with auto-scrolling verses in the latest macOS beta.

Not all songs support the feature, though a majority of Apple Music's top hits and popular tracks have been transcribed and subsequently coded into Apple's live lyrics database.

Availability of Apple Music's lyrics visualizer was first spotted by 9to5Mac earlier today.

So you're saying no one said nothing? Everyone said something?

If you were trying to be clever, you'd say:

no one: we want scrolling lyrics

    apple: here's scrolling lyrics

    Your post makes no sense.

Real lyrics, from the real Led Zeppelin; "it's whispered that soon, If we all call the tune Then [Apple] will lead us to reason And a new day will dawn For those who stand long And the forests will echo with laughter" Looking forward to it being available on Apple TV (including an option to disable the screen saver when music is playing. What about a background mood visualiser for Apple TV too (Mac OS has had it for something like 20 years!

But have they fixed the Music app yet so that you can show album artwork in playlists? Something that was always possible in iTunes...

For Apple Music only, apparently. If you have music in your library, it seems this will not function for those tracks.

I am not a boomer and that shit was silly.  I enjoy the scrolling lyrics quite a bit personally. I love to learn and sing along to songs I enjoy, as well as knowing what is being said as some artists are hard to understand..  Plus there are folks that socially enjoy Karaoke at home.  Scrolling lyrics via the music app on ATV is quite nice.

Try and listen to Jens Kidman from Meshugah ( my avatar ) without scrolling lyrics.. Once you see the words it is much easier to understand and appreciate what he is actually singing in his strong Swedish accent.  May not be your cup of tea.. but Perpetual Black Second is killer and so are the lyrics..

Anyone there who can tell me how I can turn this karaoke sh** I never requested off when I use my ATV. And even better; a way I can see what I am playing when I play classical music which doesn't fit into the st***d Apple song context.

If you set the screen saver timeout to a small number the screensaver will kick in sooner and hide the offending scrolling lyrics. You’ll see a temporary on-screen notification when the song changes. The built in ATV screen are quite nice, and you can always use your own photos for the screen saver.
