    Now it says on the top left, "you are not logged in please login or register" even though it is letting me post (and is identifying me as a member on my posts)

    Sounds like cookie hell. Try deleting them, clearing your cache and history, and restarting. Failing that, purge the pram, order a pizza, and recite the sentance "Do I spend too much time on Apple Insider" 6 times. It's sure to work. (that or change browsers)
