Is one allowed to post fictional rumors that one has made up for the pure enjoyment of reading replies and seeing what other people have to say?

    It's been done.



    We can't disallow it, because we have absolutely no way of knowing, a priori, whether a rumor is true or not. That's the nature of things.



    However; jokes are fine, parodies are fine, but deliberately misleading people here is trolling. If we do find out, we will not be happy. If there's too much of it, we will take action.



    Think about it: As it is, how many threads in Future Hardware have been sidetracked, diluted or derailed by arguments about a poster's, site's or rumor's credibility? Do you really want more of that? Is the little thrill of fooling people here worth muddying the waters even more?



    If it helps you decide, the official answer to the last two questions is no.



    If what you want is speculation about something that might or might be true, just post that. You don't have to disguise it as inside information to get a discussion going.
