apparently censorship is an old pasttime for some of you, and you enjoy it a bit too much. there should be a way to rate the moderators in how theyre doing (private, so that they arent chastised in public). harmless threads being closed, in appleoutsider of all places, is stupid. just cause its not up to your said standards doesnt mean it's not a thread that shouldnt be allowed to survive. back off on yer "moderating" and let us do our thing. powertrips do not make this place a fun place to post. the least amount of control the better. yes, some things should be handled, like hate posts and racial slurs, etc. but threads that are harmless should be left alone. stop being so controlling...

this thread will probably just be locked, as are anything else i posts these days, but do yer thing. lock it. i dont care. if you keep this shit up, the only people left here will be the moderators...

Sometimes things that get closed are a little ridiculous, but for the most part I think the mods and admins are pretty fair.

I dunno, I hate frivolous threads as much as the next guy, but I just pass on reading them. I figure if it's a dumb enough thread, it'll drop to the bottom and out of the way. If it sticks around for long enough, I might be tempted to see what all the fuss is about. I say 'survival of the fittest' in terms of threads. If the thread doesn't violate the rules, then it really shouldn't be closed. Spamming needs to be DEFINED in the rules, not left up to someone's discretion. No offense to the current mods/admins because I think as a whole they are doing a great job, but let's remove some of the subjectivity.

Concrete posting guidelines are underway as we speak.

They should debut by the end of the week.

rule # 1. the moderators are always right.

rule # 2. anyone caught trying to contradict rule #1 will be banned imediately.

rule # 3. if moderators see a post as having "no substance" the entire thread will be locked.

rule # 4. although most threads have no point to them, we don't care and can single out any of them to label as "useless" and lock at sight.

    rule # 5. no smiling.

That's good to hear, Jonathan. I'm not too happy with the AI community right now, but I know that we've got some good people working on making it better. Let's just hope some of this noise dies down before we end up like MacNN and all the crap over there. Good luck.
