??? "unregistered" and other forum problems
As you all have probably noticed, recently AppleInsider has once again been having major problems. Most notably, in the past three days, everyone has become unregistered and no one can log in.
The moderators and administrators would like you all to know that we are aware of the problem and are actively working to find and implement a fix. Once the member database has been repaired, we will try to transition over to vBulletin as soon as possible.
In the mean time, members should NOT clear their cookies or log out from AppleInsider. Doing so will block you out of the system until we get the database repaired. Also, please do not try to register new member names. This could cause more headaches for the system.
Thank you for your patience,
The AppleInsider Staff

The simple answer is that UBB is just crumbling away. It has slowly been dying for a while now, with random features breaking at different times, and we're doing all that we can just to keep it up long enough before the big transition to vBulletin. Once the switch is made, everything should work beautifully.

So we're all waiting for vBulletin. We're waiting because UBB's member database is also crumbling, so we can't just import it into vBulletin. So we can either wait for a low-level fix from a MacNN server guru or ask everyone to start over again.
Believe me, if there was anything we could do, we'd have long since done it.
<strong>Unfortunately, one of the things that has crumbled is the interface that allows us to fix things... </strong><hr></blockquote>
That is almost funny. But not quite.
Alanis Morisette, you listening? That's irony...

Get one of those slow MacNN stooges over here now...remind them that this place is a source of revenue for them (the ads.)

<strong>Is this you Brad?</strong><hr></blockquote>Err, no. <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" />
Anyway, everything on the UBB side of AI <a href="http://forums.appleinsider.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=10&t=002866" target="_blank">has been fixed</a> for now.
* logins work!
* searches work!
* new registrations work!
Things are progressing VERY nicely now. The vBulletin side has been ready for a while, but there are still a few tests we need to perform before making the official "big switch".
These are exciting times, folks.
(well, at least it is for us mods and admins )
