Spell Check "Learned" Words Erased After Every OS Update

Am I going crazy? Every time I update my OS, all of the words I add to my spell checker are completely gone. Is there anyway to tell the macOS to please leave my user list of learned words alone? I have pretty much given up and don't even use the "Learn" command anymore. Makes me sad because I use a lot of crazy nomenclature.
