concerning spate of locks and trollism in FC

I for one don't care about trollism

let it happen

I for one, also, like to think that FC should be virtually unregulated . . . never should it get a thread locking, in my mind, unless it is really truly absolutely rank and useless . . and even then sometimes those start to move into being productive . . .

also just a note: I think that that Hispanic thread really is a political issue and should be moved back to FC

    I think we should follow Alcimedes advice in dealing with trolls to see how that works out.

    here it is:

    [quote] i think you want to fix things in the wrong direction though. rather than having some ruling body that dictates what will and will not stay in FC for everyone, you'd be better off holding the posters to higher standards. you're expecting a handful of people to police the acts of dozens. instead, why not just expect more from those that post?

    if you make an effort to keep a thread civil, on-topic and factual, it can be done. if you're willing to degenerate into a flamefest it will happen every time.

    you'll have to lead by example, not dictate terms.

    it's hard work, but the only real solution.

    quality posts tend to get quality replies. ignore trolls and respond to posts worth responding to.

    By the way, I think Fireside Chat has now become the politics and religion only forum...

    Pretty much, yes. It's the political and religious threads that seem to cause the greatest amount of aggravation, and considering 90% of traffic in FC covers these two topics, it seems to make sense.

    Please note, this is not an excuse to roam through FC like marauding barbarians, nor is it an excuse to abuse posting policy in Apple Outsider.
