Spam harvesting of AI email addresses?

I just got a porn spam email from a "Jennifer Afferson" <jeni@mac.com>

directing me to check out her homepage at

<a href="http://webajans.com/ortak/jennifer/"; target="_blank">http://webajans.com/ortak/jennifer/</a>;

Now all of the other people addressed in the To: field were .mac addresses and my immediate thought was that someone had found a way to tell if .mac addresses were in use, but I think I recognize at least three names from the forums here which is quite a high ratio if I am correct.

So anyone else seen this and is it possible that someone is accessing your database?

    I haven't had to look at a spam email in months since mail works so well. I just took a quick glance at my junk mail and I don't seem to have anything from this particular person. Good supposition, though. I wouldn't be surprised if it were true.

    I have one address I've never given out to any public site, but every once in a while, I get randomized spam. The spam you got is probably of that variety.

    I can confirm that. The amateurs of spam often have visible adresses of those others they have sent to. I often recieve mail in my .mac account where they have sent it to the hotmail.com, yahoo.com, aol.com, etc. with the same first three letters as in my email adress .

    I checked out the .mac homepages for the email addresses that I thought I recognized and it turns out that the common link is the chimera mailing list rather than appleinsider.
