Abusive? App breaking smart invert to push “dark mode” as a paid addon

iOS and iPadOS have this great “smart invert” feature that does an excellent job for apps or websites that do not support dark mode.  But is it an abusive practice for apps who offer dark mode as a paid addon to break smart invert so that they can force the users to pay for the feature?
