No Radeon 9700 or nVidia NV30 until 2003?
I don't know if I can bring myself to buy a new Power Mac until some next generation GPU comes out to go with it. Some rumors have expected that the ATI Radeon 9700 and/or the nVidia NV3x (GeForce 5?) will be an option when new Power Macs appear (this month we hope).
I don't know which of those boards will come out on top, but it seems clear to me that NEITHER will be out any time soon. Right from the mouth of each company:
Radeon 9700 delayed:

NV30 delayed:

I'd love some reason to hope for one of these sooner. Any thoughts? Any speculation which will come out on top when they DO both appear?

the ATI 9700 on the other hand is supposed to be on store shelves later this month. so this is a very real possibility for the G4.
Apple can always add the option for a different video card when it comes available. they dont have to wait for a totally new G4 hardware bump to add the option for a new video card.

So I guess these Hercules Radeon 9700 pictures are fake?

They aren't saying the PC version won't be out in a month they are just saying the Mac version may be delayed somewhat.
I'm still inclined to believe late August/early autumn isn't out of the question though.
Edit: NV30 isn't going to realistically arrive until late this year at the earliest and certainly 2003 is considerably more likely.

Why does that Hercules card have molex connectors?

Power for your additional fans, blinky lights, etc. Case modders are always cramming more useless crap in there, and most of them use molex connectors.

I assume that either that's an unreleased product, or not for Mac. Never heard of Hercules. But that link I gave goes to ATI actually speaking about the 9700's timetable.

A Mac version is more or less Mac drivers and I doubt ATI didn't co-develop the card on Mac and PC. If you never heard of Hercules - well it's a hardware company in Europe. Pretty much everyone interested in video/sound cards I know knows of it.

Because the Radeon 9700 uses more power than an AGP slot can provide thus it needs additional power directly from the power supply. Matrox and Nvidia's new cards will likely use similar connectors.

I'm hoping that the next PowerMacs have AGP Pro 8x slots ... they are supposed to supply greater power levels, avoiding the ugliness of these external power connectors.
