Hi guys. I hope I find some people to help me. I have been assigned the job of putting together a 64 page(total) black and white magazine. I would appreciate any tips, but I do have a couple questions I hope you guys are kind enough to help me with.

1) I am planning on using the "book" feature of 5.0. Is this the best option?

2) Do I use the facing pages option throughout?

3) Any tips on checking how the document is going to look like( since my Epson inkjet has only so much printing area?)

4) Anyone know where to find more frames besides the one Quark comes with?

Thanks guys. Every tip will be greatly appreciated.

64 pages is alot...and in black&white that is gonna be kinda ugly, but what are ya gonna do

i havn't used quark in a LONG time (havn't had time, i'm a PS junki now) but as a design layout, just make sure you space things well enough and use variation but not too much with the text

making things look good that are strictly blackand white is hard...if ur printer is good you might want to think about making headings in PS with shadows and gradients

This is useful only if you have several people working on it simultaneously. It is easier, however, if you really need a multi-document layout, to set up sections in every separate document to maintain a consistent page numbering. That is, if you have, say, 3 QXDs for your magazine (pages 1-20, 21-48,49-64 in each), set up a section in doc 2 to start page numbering from 21 and in doc 3, from 49.

You can create a book if you are comfortable with that.

I'd recommend it, though many professionals ignore the feature. There are some ugly things about facing pages: if you need to re-arrange your layout and you move an odd number of pages, other pages shift and odd pages become even while even pages become odd. With heavily loaded master pages you get a lot of headache.

Fit to page? Get a larger printer? Make print-quality PDFs? Sorry, I didn't understand the question.

Quark frames totally suck (since they are bitmaps and poorly implemented). Better draw them in Illustrator/Freehand, if you need something special rather than simple borders.

    I hope this helped.
